Transfer
Domain
It may be tempting to transfer domain names when a
domain registrar service is offering cheaper domain name
registration rates. Another lure that often hooks people
is the fact that domain and web host registrars are
offering free privacy registration (no personal
information revealed when you register your website
name).
Before You Transfer Your Domain Names
Before you transfer domain names from one registrar to
another you need to know a few things. For one, you need
to know if you can rely on the new domain name registrar
that you would choose.
For instance, you will want to know if that particular
website name registration company offers reasonable
enough web hosting services. You will also want to know
that that particular domain name registrar has a good
reputation within the Internet hosting community.
You also want to know before you transfer domain names
whether or not you will be pointing your domains to name
servers that you can trust. You would not want your
personal information to be stolen.
You also want to make sure that you are not tempted to
change your paid domain name registration to a free one.
The free domain registrations are not considered as
reliable. If you choose these you may find that your
website may not even be up and running any longer.
The other thing you want to consider when you are
considering the transfer of domain names is
compatibility. It is possible to host your website at a
different place than the one with whom your domain is
registered. However, if you have ever tried this in the
past you know that it is not the easiest way to go.
Sometimes you get what you pay for when you transfer
domain names to a cheaper or free service as well. For
instance, you may have certain tools such as ad scripts
or audio files that may not be supported by a new domain
name-especially if it is a free one.
There are exceptions to the points made about
transferring to a cheaper domain registration company
though. For instance, there are quite a few ICANN
approved website registrars that only charge between
$7.00 and $10.00 a year per domain name.
How To Prevent Domain Name Transfer Hassles
Make you read the find print of any domain name transfer
contract before you sign up to have your site names
moved. Also, make sure you know what you will be getting
yourself into when you attempt to point your domain
names to a different server.
Warning About Domain Transfers
Sometimes domain transfers are not immediate and it can
cause your website to not appear over the internet for a
few hours to a few days. In some cases you may even be
required to republish your whole website. Therefore, be
careful.
